The next part of the pre-season schedule has been confirmed. 1. FC Köln will take on SV Werder Bremen and VfL Osnabrück in a shortened tournament at Heinz-Dettmer-Stadion in Lohne, where each game last 60 minutes and each team faces off against one another. Should a game end level, it will go to penalties.
Werder and Osnabrück represent two strong challengers for FC. Werder finished in 8th place last season, missing out on a European place by just a single point. Florian Kohfeldt will be hoping to build on that and guide Werder back into European places for the first time since 2009-10.
As for Osnabrück, they are back in 2. Bundesliga after a nine-year wait. Daniel Thioune led the team to promotion as 3. Liga champions, finishing five points clear of Karlsruher SC. Osnabrück managed to led the way in the third tier since Matchday 10, and were deservedly promoted back to the second division on Matchday 34.
