Ahead of Freiburg

A quick call: Dominique Heintz

Alongside the away game against SC Freiburg on Saturday, 1. FC Köln will see a familiar face once more. That is Dominique Heintz. The defender spoke about the upcoming match, and why he could miss it.

Hello Heintzi, on Saturday you face off against your old club. How do you see the game against FC?
I am looking forward to it. I look forward to playing against my old clubs. I had three great years at FC and I’m looking forward to seeing the old faces from where I once played. Therefore, it is a special feeling to play against FC.

Have you sent any messages to old team-mates? A bit of pre-match trash talk?
No, that is not something I do. When you do that before the game, things can go wrong. I do not want to have any bad karma before the game. Everyone is concentrating on their task. I think that it will be a good, even game.

You’ve won the last four games in a row. What sort of team can FC expect at the weekend?
I believe that we are a good and difficult team, which sticks together. We are in good form at the moment, as you can see with the four wins in a row. FC will know that it won’t be easy against us. On the other hand, we lost twice against them last season. We’ve been warned.

You played through the first eight games and then you’ve been on the bench for the last five.
That’s true. The coach changed things around and when it works, then there is no reason to change something. The most important thing is that we have success as a club and earn our points. I don’t think about it personally, I’m a team player. It’s a normal phase in football to sit on the bench. Since my move to Freiburg, I’ve played a lot and know what I can do. I give my all in training and the rest will come again.

It could be that you’re not available for Saturday – your wife is about to give birth. How is she?
She’s doing very well. The we originally got the 31st December as our date and now it’s a case of waiting. I train normally and during games, the physios have their phone on so that they can let me know if it does happen. Laura has already said that the baby will wait until after the Köln game if it isn’t here for Thursday. (laughs) No, fun aside. We have a home game and it’s not far from the stadium to the hospital. I’d be there quicker than my wife.

Are you having a boy or girl?
We know already, but we’re not saying. Only our parents and my best friend know. That’s also the case with the name.
