Call-ups for academy players

As the first international break of 2019 draws ever closer, 1. FC Köln’s academy will see several players depart on journeys across Europe.

A total of 16 FC players have been called up or put on call for their national youth teams across the international break. That includes 13 German players, as well as Latvia, Czech Republic, Turkey and Macedonia.

Six players from Stefan Ruthenbeck’s table-topping under-19 side have the potential to depart with their respective sides over the next week. Can Bozdogan and Elias Oubella, who are both a part of the German under-18 on call list, could join Noah Katterbach. Captain, Tomas Ostrak will be with the Czech Republic under-19s and Bogdans Samoilovs has been called up to the Latvian under-21s.

Darko Churlinov will be the only representative from the youth academy to feature in his national team’s senior squad, having been selected by Macedonia for their upcoming qualifiers against Latvia and Slovenia.

Martin Heck’s impressive under-17 side will see Marvin Obuz and Florian Wirtz depart, to the German under-17 and under-16 squads respectively, with a further four players on call for the under-17s and Jonas Urbig with the under-16s. Both Yusuf Sahin Örnek and Batuhan Özden are part of the Turkey under-17 panel.

As for the FC under-16s, Winzent Suchanek will be part of the Germany under-16 squad as Ben-Nicolas Hompesch is on standby.

*On Friday, another FC player was called up to his national side as Hikmet Ciftci as part of the Turkish under-21 side.
