The Day at FC

Czichos: “It’s a lot of pressure off our shoulders”

The FC players are currently preparing for the final Bundesliga game of the season against Werder Bremen. Simon Terodde returned to team training on Wednesday morning after his knee injury, while Jhon Cordoba completed a planned individual session. Thomas Kessler missed out with the cold. After the session, Rafael Czichos spoke about the relief of survival and the goal in the Bremen game.

The 1. FC Köln players were enjoying the sun on Wednesday in Franz-Kremer-Stadion as the preparations continue ahead of the final match of the campaign. While concentration was at a high level, so was the level of competition. Florian Kainz, Benno Schmitz, Niklas Hauptmann, Kingsley Schindler, Brady Scott, Jorge Meré, Kingsley Ehizibue and Ellyes Skhiri made up the winning tournament team as the players faced off against one another.

After the session, Rafael Czichos spoke about…

…staying up: “Staying up was extremely important after we didn’t manage to make sure of it in the many weeks in which went beforehand. The fact that we brought it over the line is a very important for the entire club and for us as a team, because it is a lot of pressure off our shoulders.”

…the upcoming game in Bremen: “You can see that everything is a bit more relaxed this week in training. I hope that we can take that into the game against Bremen. We want to win above all else. Since the Corona break, we haven’t had that winning feeling. We don’t want to end the season that way. That should be the big motivation for everyone on the pitch.”

…the atmosphere: “It feels great, everyone is laughing a lot more on the pitch. The fun is back. I would have liked to have had this feeling a few weeks ago, but we’ll enjoy it for at least a week.”
