Peter Stöger on Hertha

“Face this situation”

A second round fixture against Hertha BSC awaits 1. FC Köln in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday night. On Tuesday, FC head coach Peter Stöger spoke about the upcoming match and the situation with Jörg Schmadtke.

Peter Stöger spoke on Tuesday’s press conference about…

  • …the departure of Jörg Schmadtke: “I was just as surprised as everybody else. I did not know anything about it until ten minutes before the press release went out. I respect and accept the decision of both Jörg and of the club. I would like to say that we had a close and good relationship. Our collaboration was based on trust and dialogue, in both good times and bad.”
  • …preparing for the Cup match: “In our current situation we have simply one motto: to win. In the Cup, you either win or lose. Advance or get knocked out. That is the mindset we are taking.”
  • …the status of the injured players: “Jorge Meré could be making his way back into the squad, but the status of Kocka Rausch remains open. He has flu-like symptoms. The rest of the injured list remains as it was.”
  • …his relationship with Jörg Schmadtke: “It was absolutely acceptable and defined by talks and discussions. What remains is that we managed to bring the club back to the Bundesliga in our time together. We did some great things together and now we found ourselves in a difficult phase. There are many positive memories.”
  • …the concentration of the team: “It does not change the fact that we are in a difficult situation. The sporting side has one fewer figure concerning input and opinion. We all understand that we are in a decisive time at this club that we are trying to turn into a positive one for us. We want to get past this phase and that is what we will do.”
