Raising mental health awareness

FC and CALM come together for mental health

1. FC Köln and the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) have teamed up for the remainder of the 2020-21 season. CALM will be present on every substitution graphic used on English-speaking social media to help raise mental health awareness.

CALM, through their frontline services, national campaigns, and by building communities, are there for everyone who is struggling with life. No matter what. They have one goal: a more hopeful society. One where people reject living miserably, get help when they need it and don’t die by suicide.

Since the first UK-wide lockdown and up until December, CALM’s helpline received almost 100,000 calls and directly prevented 323 suicides. That totals to over 16,800 hours of talking directly to people and over 930,000 text chat messages, supporting those in need when it comes to isolation, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and stress.

The #ChangeTheGame hashtag will be used alongside the CALM logo on all substitution graphics. This is not only to show the substitution during the game, but it is a chance to pause, reflect and change our approach to mental health.

With lockdowns being extended in both Germany and the UK, as well as around the world, 1. FC Köln hope to help raise awareness of CALM’s services and promote mental health to a wide audience across social media.

With CALM’s belief in collective action and the power of Football to change culture, FC want to help raise awareness of their services and point people in the right direction for when they or anyone they know requires help. FC will become one of the first clubs to embark on such an endeavour.
