U21: Draw against strong Alemannia

With a dogged display, Andre Pawlak’s men managed to earn a point against Alemannia Aachen. After a successful preparation, the U21s had to make the tricky trip to the Tivoli. In the first half, the fans saw an even game. After good work from Hikmet Ciftci, Chris Führich missed the chance to put FC ahead. Ismael Jakobs then teed up Vincent Geimer in the middle, only to see his effort blocked. Alemannia had their own opportunities but Jan-Christoph Bartels was putting up resistance in the FC goal. In the second half, a shot from Johannes Kölmel struck the bar. Aachen continued to press hard but the under-21s held on to earn a point.

U19: A point in Oberhausen

1. FC Köln’s under-19s earned a point against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen but left two on the pitch at the same time. FC had the advantage and went ahead thanks to a Luca Schlax header from a corner. In the second half, it was another header that brought Oberhausen level thanks to Durim Berisha. FC responded within 10 minutes and Schlax scored from the spot to make it 1:2. Oberhausen’s Henry Haferkorn then saw red for a lack of discipline, as both Elmin Heric and Oliver Schmitt passed up the chance to decide the game. Kerem Sengün then struck for RWO to make it 2:2 at the final whistle.

Goals: 1:0 Luca Schlax (35.), 1:1 Durim Berisha (57.), 1:2 Luca Schlax (66., Elfmeter), 2:2 Kerem Sengün (76.)

U17: Friendly win

The under-17s are coming to the end of their Winter preparations and, on Saturday, played a friendly against 1. FC Union Berlin. After goals from Jacob Jansen, Florian Wirtz (2), Marvin Obuz, Dennis Dahmen and Winzent Suchanek helped FC to a 6:1 win.

FC Frauen: Defeat to start 2019

FC Frauen began the 2. Bundesliga Rückrunde against SV Meppen with a defeat. In Franz-Kremer-Stadion, FC began the game slowly. Jalila Dalaf had the chance to give Meppen the lead but failed to find the target. At the break, FC were happy not to be behind. That didn’t last long, however, as Maike Berentzen came off the bench to score within two minutes of the restart. After the opening goal, FC began to come into things more and Meike Meßmer and Karoline Kohr both had opportunities to level the scores. Berentzen then struck again after Pauline Nelles put in several superb saves. Kohr did strike to make it 1:2, but FC couldn’t find a late leveller to stay in the promotion places.

Goals: 0:1 Maike Berentzen (47.), 0:2 Maike Berentzen (72.), 1:2 Karoline Kohr (77.)
