5:0 victory

FC start pre-season with Porz win

1. FC Köln started pre-season with a 5:0 win over SpVg. Porz in Franz-Kremer-Stadion on Wednesday evening. The hosts scored all the goals in the second half. Jhon Cordoba's brace sandwiched goals from Christian Clemens, Jonas Hector and Ellyes Skhiri.

Goalless at the break

FC began the game with plenty of possession and also had the first chance of the match after five minutes. Florian Kainz’s corner was met by Marco Höger in the middle of the six-yard box, yet his header caught the crossbar. It was the first of a series of dangerous set-pieces in the first period, with Robert Voloder’s headed effort also going narrowly over.

Simon Terodde went close following Ismail Jakobs’ header, yet the forward couldn’t quite get the ball over the line. Jakobs then fired narrowly wide after Jan Thielmann’s cutback. The closest FC came was through Thielmann, who connected sweetly with a Kainz corner on the edge of the box. Unfortunately for the youngster, the Porz goalkeeper pulled off a terrific save.

Five in fantastic second half

Markus Gisdol made 11 changes at the break as the FC head coach moved to get minutes in the legs of the whole squad. The first goal of the game came not long after. After Jannes Horn’s cross fell kindly to Jhon Cordoba, and the Colombian forward fired home from close range to deservedly break the deadlock.

The pressure continued from an FC perspective as the team kept and moved the ball with real purpose. Jannes Horn and Christian Clemens were particularly active. The latter hit the crossbar with a superb left-footed effort, while Cordoba headed wide of the far post following a Dominick Drexler cross.

However, the second goal did arrive just after the cooling break. Benno Schmitz’s ball to the front post was superbly swept home by the oncoming Christian Clemens from six yards out. A third goal would follow not long later. Jannes Horn’s delivery found Jonas Hector, who sent brilliantly placed header into the top corner.

FC were not finished there, though. Ellyes Skhiri was at the back post to produce a finish almost identical to that of Hector moments earlier, with Jannes Horn again finding a fine cross. One minute latter, Jhon Cordoba was on the scoresheet again as a corner found its way through the bodies to the striker in front of goal. He didn't need another invitation to fire home to finish the game in style.
