Monday Training Report

Gearing up for Berlin

The 1. FC Köln players were back in training on Monday. Peter Stöger’s aim is to give his players the chance to regenerate ahead of Wednesday’s DFB-Pokal fixture in Berlin.

The training session on Monday marked the start of another intensive week for 1. FC Köln. Before FC take on Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Saturday in the Duel of the Rhine, Peter Stöger’s men will have to travel to the German capital to take on Hertha BSC in the second round of the DFB-Pokal (German Cup). While most players focused on regeneration, the select few that did not feature heavily in Sunday’s Bremen match took part in a light session on the training pitch.

Good news arrived for FC fans in the form of Jorge Meré’s return to team training. The Spanish U21 player had been sidelined since injuring his hip on international duty. The remaining FC injury list includes: Matthias Lehmann, Marco Höger, Claudio Pizarro, Jhon Cordoba, Marcel Risse, Jonas Hector, and Nikolas Nartey. In addition, Konstantin Rausch had to sit out training on Monday after suffering from flu-like symptoms.

Asked if any of the injured players were likely to appear in the DFB-Pokal match, Stöger quickly counted out the notion. Despite the difficult match up of having to play on the road in Berlin, the FC head coach asserts that the goal remains to progress into the next round.
