Three players on international duty

International break: Meré and Scott in tournament action

As the majority of the 1. FC Köln squad head off on their summer holidays at the end of this week, three players are still in action as the international break and youth tournaments take over. Jorge Meré, Florian Kainz and Brady Scott will all be in action over the coming weeks.

Jorge Meré will have the chance to add to his already impressive haul of 28 international caps for the Spanish under-21 side this summer, as he heads off to Italy with the Spain squad for the under-21 European Championship.

Meré, who was captain for the qualifiers, will be hoping to continue his good form into the tournament and go one better than the Spanish squad of 2017, who lost in the final to Germany. Spain take on hosts Italy in the opening game on June 16th, before taking on Belgium (19th June) and then Poland (22nd June) to round off the group stages.

Florian Kainz is also set to be busy in June. The Austrian winger has been a regular member of Franco Foda’s set-up of late and should also be called up for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers. Austria will take on Slovenia (7th June 2019, 20:45 CEST, Wörthersee Stadion, Klagenfurt, Austria) and North Macedonia (10th June 2019, 20:45 CEST, Nacionalna Arena Filip II Makedonski, Skopje, Macedonia).

Brady Scott will be in action before both, as he ventures to Poland for the under-20 World Cup. The FC goalkeeper is a regular with the USA side and will hope to showcase his talents once more, after winning the Golden Glove during their triumph in the respective CONCACAF tournament.

The US will fancy their chances of progressing from Group D, having been paired with Qatar, Nigeria and Ukraine. They start their campaign this Thursday against Ukraine, before facing Nigeria on 27th May and then rounding the group stage of three days later against Qatar.

Good luck to all three!
