Peter Stöger on Hoffenheim

"It is up to us"

With the UEFA Europa League match already in the back mirror, FC head coach Peter Stöger has his eyes set on the upcoming Bundesliga fixture against TSG Hoffenheim.

Peter Stöger spoke on Friday about…

  • …his reaction to the win against Borisov: “I am happy about the win and the fact that we turned the match in the second half. The atmosphere at halftime also showed me the kind of support this team has from the crowd. I am very happy that we could give back some trust and support to our fans. The fact that our strikers scored and that our substitutes made the difference are just some of the positive things that came out of the match.”
  • …the status of the injured players: “We will have to wait and see with Sehrou Guirassy. Today was a light session so we will see tomorrow. Same goes for Marcel Risse, but I would not expect him to be fit for the starting eleven. The question is whether we include him in the squad. Weighing the short-term gains against the long-term risk – that is part of our job.”
  • …TSG Hoffenheim: “A team with speed and technique. A top team in attack, but similar to Leverkusen, they have their difficulties in defense. Our job will be to put them into difficult situations.”
  • …comparing Europa League to the Bundesliga: “I think we were under pressure yesterday as well. There is not a big difference. We know we still have plenty to make up for, but all teams that are in the bottom places of the standings are dealing with pressure. I would say even the teams at the top are under pressure. You are never not under pressure as a professional athlete.”

Kick off at the RheinEnergieSTADION on Sunday is set for 15:30.
