Thoughts after the game

Katterbach: “Hard work pays off”

After the 3:1 win against VfL Wolfsburg, NetCologne FC-TV spoke with head coach, Markus Gisdol, Mark Uth, Jonas Hector and Noah Katterbach.

Markus Gisdol: “Over the entire game, we had a very good goalkeeper on the pitch. He kept us in the game in the early stages. Then the team flicked the switch, became brave and put themselves in the lead. We then got things under control, closed the space and made the gaps smaller. That was the basis to be successful. It certainly wasn’t a case of all that glitters isn’t gold, but we deserved the win. It was important, that we got points. We did that and that does us good.”

Mark Uth: “We absolutely wanted to win in front of our fans. The first 15 minutes weren’t too good, then we did brilliantly. Generally, I feel very comfortable here. I already know a lot and my fitness is slowly getting better. I already know that I’m not quite at 100%, but when I keep getting the minutes, then it’ll come. In the Bundesliga, it’s a case of everyone being able to beat everyone and now we travel to Dortmund and want to take something from the game.”

Jonas Hector: “The 10 outfield players woke up after 10 minutes. Thankfully, Timo was there from the start. We were completely asleep and we were lucky, that we didn’t concede. After that, we played well. We were good in the tackles and closed the space. We very much deserved one goal and the fact that we were able to score again before the break was very important. We grafted a lot, especially in the training camp. We’re pleased that we’ve been able to win the last four games. That helps an awful lot, given how close the league is, in terms of points, at the moment. Now we’ve got to prepare ourselves for Dortmund, just like any other opponent. Obviously it’s another level, when you have to go to Dortmund on a Friday evening, but we’ll try to take something back with us.”

Noah Katterbach: “The team did well. We showed what we showed at the end of the Hinrunde. We pushed one another and that worked. In the first 10 minutes, Wolfsburg were the better side. Then we got a hold of ourselves, set up and worked together. We then managed to shift the game in our favour and we did that very well as a team. Hard work pays off. We’ve worked very well on our fitness, so that we can run and battle more. I’m looking forward to the game in Dortmund and every game that I play for FC.”
