17-year-old to complete pre-season with first-team

Long-term deal for Jens Castrop

1. FC Köln have extended with academy talent, Jens Castrop for the long-term. The midfielder has signed a deal until 2023.

1. FC Köln will continue to integrate and build on the incredible talents within the youth academy and has tied Jens Castrop to a long-term deal. The 17-year-old midfielder has signed a contract until 2023. Castrop will complete pre-season with Markus Gisdol’s side.

“Jens is a very ambitious player who, not only stands out with his presence and an extremely strong dynamic, also possesses a huge amount of desire and willpower. We want him to develop into a first team footballer in the coming years,” said FC managing director, Horst Heldt.

“I am delighted with the trust that FC have placed in me in discussions with those responsible at the club. In the past season, you could see that Markus Gisdol was giving young players a chance. This perspective and the personal discussion with the head coach of the first-team was decisive for me.. He showed me a path in which I believe in. Therefore, I see my chance to make the leap into the Bundesliga,” said Jens Castrop.

Jens Castrop was born on 29th July 2003 in Düsseldorf. He joined 1. FC Köln in the summer of 2015 and his made his way through the academy ever since. At the beginning of the 2018-19 season, he had already been brought up to the under-17s and made 14 appearances on the way to being crowned German champions. In the past season, the German youth international made 19 appearances in the U17 Bundesliga West.
