Matchday 7

Number crunch: Away to Schalke

Time for a trip to Schalke. Gelsenkirchen has been a happy hunting ground for 1. FC Köln in recent years. Here are 10 stats to get you in the mood for Saturday night under the lights.

Can FC keep up the good form "auf Schalke"?

When it comes to Bundesliga matches against Schalke 04, 1. FC Köln have only lost one of their last eight meetings against the Royal Blues. They are unbeaten in the away games during that period.

FC have scored at least twice in each of their last four league games in the Veltins-Arena. That has included three wins and a draw. FC’s last defeat in Gelsenkirchen, excluding the DFB-Pokal, came back in 2011.

There have been 274 goals in the 84 Bundesliga games. There have been just two nil-nil draws between both sides in that time, with both coming in Gelsenkirchen.

Anthony Modeste has never lost when he has scored against Schalke 04, and has never lost in Gelsenkirchen with FC. The Frenchman has scored in three of his four meetings against Schalke while with 1. FC Köln, and both wins came in Gelsenkirchen.

Against no other team have FC won as many Bundesliga games as they have done against Schalke (36).

FC have managed to find the back of the net in each of their last 11 Bundesliga matches against Schalke – their run against the Royal Blues is their longest scoring streak against any current Bundesliga side.

Schalke in super form

Amine Harit is the man of the moment for Schalke. He has already doubled his goal contribution from last season (6, last year 3), and is the first Royal Blue to score in three consecutive Bundesliga games since Guido Burgstaller at the end of 2017.

Schalke are much improved from last season. It took them 12 games to reach the 13-point-mark in 2018-19, and only twice in their history have they began a Bundesliga season with more points after six games. That was back in 2000-01 (14) and 1971-72 (15, equivalent).

Schalke have claimed victory in consecutive Bundesliga home games for the first time since November 2018. With that in mind, their last two Bundesliga home games have brought as many points as their previous 12 combined (6).

From the current Schalke squad, only Guido Burgstaller, Amine Harit and Alessandro Schöpf have managed to score against FC for the Royal Blues. Their three goals combined is as many as Anthony Modeste alone.
