Match Preview: Hertha BSC

Showdown in the capital

Following the 1-1 draw against 1. FSV Mainz 05, 1. FC Köln will have a chance against Hertha Berlin on Saturday to make up ground in the relegation battle.

1. FC Köln missed the chance to cut the 1. FSV Mainz 05 lead in the relegation battle in the previous match day. Coming up next is a trip to the German capital, and FC will have the opportunity to put some pressure on Mainz, who will have to wait for their match until SC Freiburg until Monday. It will not be easy for FC, however. Hertha have the best defensive record in the Bundesliga in the second half of the season, having given up just nine goals.

The Record

The overall FC record against Hertha is positive. In 67 matches, FC have won 30 and drawn 12 matches. Although Hertha won the first match up of the league season with a score of 2-0, FC have already proven that they can win at the Olympiastadion, having come away with a 3-1 win in the DFB-Pokal back in October.

What the coaches say

Stefan Ruthenbeck (1. FC Köln): “We know we have the chance to pick up three points in Berlin, but we also know that we have to improve our performance. We have to be more effective in front of goal.”

Pal Dardai (Hertha BSC): “The first 20 minutes will be important. If we have opportunities, we absolutely have to make use of them. We created many chances in Gladbach. We have to build on that.”
