New arrival

Skhiri: “Ready to give my best”

New arrival, Ellyes Skhiri joined FC training on Monday morning. After his first training session, the midfielder spoke about his first impressions, the cup game in Wiesbaden and his goals with 1. FC Köln.

Ellyes, welcome to FC once more. What are your first impressions from the first training session?

It was really good. The atmosphere in the team is also super. For me, it was the first training sessions since my holiday and we were back into it with good intensity. I’m ready to give my best.

Your team-mates had a difficult Pokal game yesterday against SV Wehen Wiesbaden. What did you think of the game?

It was a very tough and nervy evening for me. I’d imagine it was just like any other fan. It was a typical Pokal battle, that took a lot out of the boys. But in the end, only one thing matters: we’re in the next round. We did it.

Have you already found a place in Köln?

I arrived in Köln last week, and that was to try and find a house. My partner and I have been to many viewings and have now found one. We will live in Marienburg, not too far away from Anthony Modeste. We’ll move into the house in around two weeks.

Have you been able to see around Köln at all?

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to see too much. Tony will definitely show my a little. With him, I have a good teacher. He knows a little bit about here. We’re going to grab something to eat, I’ve already gotten a restaurant tip from him.

You made it into the semi-finals of AFCON with Tunisia and then headed into your holidays. How difficult is it to come straight into a team following their pre-season?

That’s true. After AFCON, I needed a break to recharge the batteries – physically and mentally. Obviously, I kept myself fit during the holidays. Now I’ve got to work hard and get to 100% as quickly as possible. The Bundesliga is just around the corner.

What sort of a player are you?

I run and work a lot for the team. My biggest strength lies in interceptions. I want to keep developing with FC and improve as a player.

What are your aims in your first few weeks at FC?

I want to integrate quickly and get stuck in, in order to help the team as quickly as possible. Apart from that, it’s important that I learn the language quickly. I want to be able to communicate well on and off the pitch.
