    FC Season Review Part II

    Still Undefeated

1. FC Köln just had one of the most successful seasons in recent history. Part II of the season review looks back at the month of September.

September 2016 is when the FC season really got it going. Four matches, of which FC did not lose a single one.

Top of the Table

Following a strong start at home, FC traveled northeast to Wolfsburg for the first Bundesliga away match of the campaign. The match ended in a goalless draw, but it was a positive Bundesliga debut for the young Sven Müller, who had also kept a clean sheet in the 7-0 DFB-Pokal win against Preussen.

The following Friday FC were once again at home, this time against SC Freiburg. A 3-0 win courtesy of goals from Bittencourt and Modeste (x2) meant FC were top of the Bundesliga table, even if it was just for one night.

The fine form continued into the following week, where FC faced off against Schalke 04. Although Huntelaar put the hosts in front, Osako answered just minutes later. Modeste and Zoller then struck for FC to secure all three points on the road. It was a special moment for Salih Özcan, who made his debut and became the 500th FC player to feature in a competitive match.

The next match saw FC host RB Leipzig at the RheinEnergieSTADION. The surprise team of the season put themselves in front in the early going, but Osako answered with a brilliant strike to ensure both sides went home with a point.

Third Place

With eleven points in the first five matches, FC ended the month of September in third place of the Bundesliga standings. Only Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund started the season in better fashion.
