Matchday 12

The Number Crunch: Away to Leipzig

1. FC Köln make the trip East on Saturday evening to take on Leipzig. It’s Markus Gisdol’s first game in charge of FC, and he’ll be hoping to keep up his good record against RB Leipzig and create a bit of Bundesliga history.

1. FC Köln have scored in all four previous meetings with Leipzig. Aside from the 1:1 draw the first time the teams met, Leipzig have won twice and FC once.

That win came the last time the two sides met. Vincent Koziello and Leonardo Bittencourt scored the goals in a 2:1 win at the Red Bull Arena.

In Leipzig’s four seasons to date in the Bundesliga, they have never scored as many goals after 11 games as this year. Julian Nagelsmann’s side have found the back of the net on 29 occasions, surpassing the previous high of 23 from Ralph Hasenhüttl.

Markus Gisdol has never lost against Julian Nagelsmann in his career as a head coach. With Hamburg, he drew 2:2 with his former employers in the first meeting between the two. Gisdol then went on to beat Nagelsmann in the previous two encounters, including a 3:0 win most recent.

No team has scored more headed goals than 1. FC Köln this season. Along with four other teams, FC have found the back of the net with five headers this campaign. Three of FC’s last six goals have come from headers.

FC also lead the way when it comes to scoring from corners. Along with TSG Hoffenheim, 1. FC Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt, they have all managed to score four times.

RB Leipzig have only won twice at home this season. With two draws and a defeat in their five games at the Zentralstadion this year, they boast just the 11th best home record in the Bundesliga.

Anthony Modeste is reunited with Markus Gisdol, who was the man to bring him to Germany. At Hoffenheim, Modeste played 62 times under Gisdol, registering 23 goals and seven assists in three seasons.

Simon Terodde is among the five players in the Bundesliga to have hit the aluminium twice. No other player has hit the post or crossbar more.

Should FC manage to win in Leipzig on Saturday night, they will achieve a feat that no other Bundesliga team can boast. They would be the first team to have won twice in Leipzig.
