Match Preview: Frankfurt

The Prince Returns

Eintracht Frankfurt finished the previous season in 11th place in the league. The roster was given a makeover in the summer, with a familiar Prince returning to the Bundesliga.

Eintracht Frankfurt presented the signing of Kevin-Prince Boateng just two days before the first Bundesliga match of the season. The Berlin-born attacker previously played for Bundesliga teams like Hertha BSC, Schalke 04, and Borussia Dortmund (on loan). Upon terminating Boateng’s contract, UD Las Palmas stated, “Boateng will continue his career in a place where he can be closer to his family.”

More Additions

Other notable additions to the squad include Danny da Costa from Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Gelson Fernandes from Stade Rennes, Sebastien Haller from FC Utrecht, and Jetro Willems from PSV Eindhoven. Willems holds the record as the youngest player to feature in a European Championship when he entered Euro 2012 at the age of just 18 years and 71 days.

Season Start

A 3-0 win against TuS Erndtebrück in the DFB-Pokal was followed by a 0-0 draw on the road against SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga. This was followed by a 0-1 loss at home against VfL Wolfsburg before the Prince struck his first goal for his new club in a 1-0 road win in Mönchengladbach. It was Boateng’s 10th goal in a Bundesliga match. His team has never lost a match in which the German-Ghanaian has scored. But all is not merry for the club from the German financial capital. Eintracht arrive in Cologne on Wednesday on the back of a 1-2 loss at home against FC Augsburg.
