Through the fire

Timo Horn stays

Timo Horn will remain a player of 1. FC Köln regardless of first or second league participation next season. The goalkeeper has opted not to trigger his release clause.

FC Managing Director Armin Veh says: “Timo grew up at FC, made the jump to the First Team, and has developed into a leading figure in the team. He lives for this club and is ready to continue on the same path together. If relegation were to happen, our goal is direct promotion in the following year. We are very happy that Timo, with his passion for FC, his ambition, and his quality as a goalkeeper, has committed to taking an active role in our goal.”

Timo Horn states: “FC is my club and Cologne is my home. This is why I have always said that I can envision myself going on this path together if the perspective is right. And it is. Despite a difficult season, FC has managed to create an excellent situation for the upcoming season and has ambitious goals. That is very important for me. I will do my best to put us back on the path to success.”

Timo Horn joined 1. FC Köln at the age of nine. He has played for all Germany youth teams starting at the U15 level. He won the silver medal with the German team at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Horn made his professional debut for 1. FC Köln in the 2012/13 season. He has since featured in 202 competitive matches spanning the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2, DFB-Pokal, and UEFA Europa League.
