    Training begins for U19 & U17

The 1. FC Köln U19 and U17 teams have begun preparations for the upcoming season. Both teams will start their respective campaigns with a new coach at the helm.

While the FC First Team enjoy their last week of vacation, the younger players of the academy have begun preparations for the new season. Both the U19 and U17 teams started training on Monday afternoon with new coaches at the helm. Stefan Ruthenbeck is the new coach of the U19 team, while Andre Pawlak will take over as the coach of the U17 team.

Ruthenbeck experienced

Ruthenbeck takes over for Boris Schommers as the head of the FC U19 team and comes with plenty of experience in the bag. Ruthenbeck coached 115 matches in the Bundesliga second division as head coach of both VfR Aalen and Greuther Fürth. “It is a great feeling to once again be on the pitch and to be working with a team again. I expected us to get off to a slow start, but the players trained with a real hunger right from the get-go,” said Ruthenbeck. The FC U19 team ended last season on sixth place in the Bundesliga-West. Kevin McKenna will once again take his position as the assistant coach.

Pawlak for the U17

The FC U17 team will see some changes as well. Markus Daun has the full support of 1. FC Köln while he receives his training license, while Ralf Aussem is currently in talks regarding his future. Taking their place is Andre Pawlak – the 46-year-old arrives at FC by way of KFC Uerdingen of the Regionalliga West. “I am very excited to be at a top club and to be given the opportunity to help develop top talents. I was already impressed in the very first training session. We hope to keep going like this,” said Pawlak. The U17 team finished last season in fourth place.

The seasons for the respective youth teams will begin in mid-August.
