Ruthenbeck on Stuttgart

“We are going to fight”

1. FC Köln will host VfB Stuttgart at the RheinEnergieSTADION on Sunday (15:30 CET). FC head coach Stefan Ruthenbeck spoke on Friday’s press conference about the upcoming fixture.

Stefan Ruthenbeck spoke on Friday about…

  • …the opponent: “VfB Stuttgart has picked up ten points under Tayfun Korkut and have conceded just one goal. They are on a development curve and have a great transition game. We cannot focus on the supposed weaknesses of the opponent. We have to focus on our own strengths.”
  • …the squad situation: “Marcel Risse and Simon Terodde are back in team training. We would like to see them on the pitch against Stuttgart. The decision for the 18-man squad is becoming more and more difficult. Christian Clemens will also return to team training next week.”
  • …the match: “Our aim is to win every match. We have to score goals. VfB are trying to keep a distance to the bottom of the table. We have different motivations. We have to be careful not to take too many risks, but I believe we are well prepared to face a good opponent.”
  • …Simon Terodde: “Simon is a professional, who has quickly recovered from his cold. I am sure he is raring to go against his former club. We are all excited, but Simon probably has some added motivation.”
  • …the relegation battle: “If we can reach Matchday 34 with a chance to play for our own survival, I would consider it a success. As long as that scenario remains a possibility, we are going to fight.”
