1. FC Köln have signed a new goalkeeper in the form of Marvin Schwäbe. The 26-year-old joins as Danish Superliga champion from Brøndby IF and has signed a three-year deal with FC.
“Marvin has developed steadily in the past few years and joins us with a league title win to his name. He will go into the challenge with confidence and, alongside Timo, both push one another on to their best possible level,” said Jörg Jakobs.
“I wanted to return to Germany, and I am very pleased that I was able to sign for a super club in a beautiful city. I was shown a very good perspective and the chance of a fair battle for places. I will give my best and want to play my part to help us have a more successful season than last,” said Marvin Schwäbe.
Marvin Schwäbe was born in Dieburg on 25th April 1995. The 1.90m goalkeeper played his youth football for SC Hassia Dieburg and Offenbach Kickers before joining the Eintracht Frankfurt academy in 2009. In 2013, he made the move to TSG Hoffenheim. In his first season with Hoffenheim, he was under-19 German champion and was brought into the Bundesliga squad but only appeared for the reserves. In order to gain match practice, he was loaned out to VfL Osnabrück for the 2015-16 season. He made his first steps in professional football at the Bremer Brücke, featuring in every 3. Liga game that season.
The following two seasons saw him loaned out to Dynamo Dresden, where he continued to impress. Schwäbe made 58 appearances in 2. Bundesliga before making the move north to Denmark. He was immediately a key player for Brøndby IF and was crowned Danish champion in his final season at the club. He was also 2017 under-21 European champion with Germany and Stefan Kuntz.
