1. FC Köln have extended the contract of Jan Thielmann ahead of time for the long term. The German youth international has committed until 2024.
“I can still remember Jan’s first game with the first-team. His path into the Bundesliga began with a win against Leverkusen. Since then, he has continued to develop and his established himself with the first-team squad. He continues to work on himself, do extra training sessions and is doing his A-Levels on the side. For all our academy players, who want to make the jump to the first-team, he is a role model,” said FC Managing Director, Horst Heldt.
Thielmann made his debut in December 2019, becoming the first player born in 2002 to play in the Bundesliga. Since then, the versatile forward has made 35 appearances for FC. His first goal against VfL Wolfsburg in the Hinrunde this season meant Thielmann registered himself as FC’s fourth youngest ever goalscorer. He scored his second goal in the 2:1 win over FC Schalke 04 in added time.
“I decided to extend my contract ahead of time, because I feel great here at the club. FC is home and family for me. Therefore, I am happy that the club offered me the chance to continue my development here,” said Jan Thielmann.
Jan Thielmann was born on 26th May 2002 in Föhren, close to Trier. He began his footballing career with JSG Hetzerath/Föhren/Bekond and joined Eintracht Trier in 2015. Since 2017, he has been part of the FC academy and won the under-17 German Championship in 2019. He has been a Germany youth international since the under-15s.
