On Wednesday evening, Germany face Hungary in the final Euro 2020 group stage fixture. The Hungarian parliament recently passed off on a law that bans the sharing of information considered to promote homosexuality or non-binary gender identities to children and teenagers.
As a sign of protest against the decision, the City of Munich had planned to light up the Allianz Arena in rainbow colours for the game on Wednesday. UEFA have, however, denied the request. As a result, the RheinEnergieSTADION will be colourful on Wednesday. This was decided upon by the Kölner Sportstätten on the initiative of many groups from around Köln.
FC Managing Director, Alexander Wehrle said: “We welcome this idea. Köln and FC stand for diversity and tolerance. The developments in Hungary are worrying – therefore it is even more important to send a message against that.”
